About Us

Record Theory is a new kind of record label. Unlike traditional labels, we sell downloadable music using the Internet.

We have three core beliefs:

  1. Music lovers are not criminals.
  2. Record labels should serve artists, not own them.
  3. The digital revolution is inevitable.

We are tired of getting screwed by technophobic record labels. We are tired of paying unreasonable prices for CDs, with only pennies of each sale getting back to artists. We are tired of spending hours digging through used bins when only the record store profits. We are tired of choosing between DRM-encumbered, overpriced downloads and low quality, illegal file sharing.

We are doing something about it.

Record Theory distributes music using industry-standard MP3 files with no digital shackles. You can freely use your music on as many computers as you like. You can burn as many CDs as you need. You do not have to worry about compatibility with your portable player or recurring subscription fees.

By cutting out the costs associated with producing, warehousing, and shipping physical media, Record Theory provides a better value to our customers while increasing profits for our artists. We charge only $5.00 for a full-length album and $3.00 for an EP. Over 60% of each sale is paid directly to our artists, and since artists never hold a debt to the label, every sale generates the same profit.

The Internet has changed the way fans and artists alike approach music distribution. It's time for the music industry to stop creating barriers and embrace digital media for all it's worth.

Record Theory is leading the revolution.
